The Keyes Fire Protection District provides fire prevention, education and suppression services as well as emergency medical first response to the town of Keyes, CA.

The District covers an area of approximately 22 square miles, and serves a population of 5,601. Bordered by the City of Ceres to the North, City of Turlock to the South, and additional fire districts on the East and West, participation in mutual aid agreements provides access to additional apparatus and personnel from neighboring districts should the need arise. We train with the bordering departments to increase proficiency, methods and also standardize the apparatus. 

Throughout most of the urban area, Keyes has a water system with hydrants. In the rural area, a system of portable tanks and water tenders is used to shuttle water from the nearest water supply to the fire scene. We have one water tender with a 3,000 gallon water tank. When a large fire occurs, the first tender on scene can drop its portable tank on the ground, and then dumps its load of water into it using special quick-dumping valves at the rear of the vehicle. The tender then proceeds to the nearest water source to refill. The next tender on scene repeats the process. This provides a greater volume of water that can be moved to fight the fire. 

The District complies with federal OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) requirements for "two in/two out". District personnel implement the Incident Command System on all incidents, excluding medical runs.

Medical Operations

Keyes Fire Department personnel respond to medical emergencies in our district per county protocol. We also respond to assist the ambulance provider as requested. Each of our apparatus is equipped with medical bags, oxygen, AED, and a variety of other medical equipment for use during rescues and extrications, and in situations where we arrive on scene prior to ambulance. Personnel are trained to First Responder level, however, many are EMTs or Paramedics.
